Our mission is to help achieve national and global environmental sustainability through advances in environmental governance.
The achievement of global and national environmental sustainability constitutes one of the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals. We understand environmental sustainability to be a state in which the demands on ecological systems do not reduce their capacity to allow all living species to live well, now and in the future.
At the national level, we contribute to the integration of principles of sustainable development into country governance arrangements, with the aim of preventing and reversing the loss of environmental resources.
At the international level, we contribute to the effective adoption of commitments by country Parties under Multilateral Environmental Agreements that can effectively help protect, enhance and reverse the loss of environmental resources.
Our innovative and strategic approach is based on three steps – 'design', 'implement' and 'sustain' – that structure how we contribute to achieving advances in environmental governance.
